Winemaker Champagne
Les champagnes des vignerons – in addition to the major champagne brands such as Moët&Chandon, Lanson, Krug, Roederer or Dom Perignon, there are still numerous smaller winemakers who produce and distribute champagne themselves. Winemakers are only allowed to call their champagnes Winemaker Champagne if they exclusively use their own grapes to produce the wines. There are 19,000 winegrowers in Champagne, only 2,000 of them distribute their champagne themselves. All other growers sell their grapes to the big houses. Accordingly, only 13% of all champagnes are winemaker champagnes. A true rarity, then!
