Larmandier-Bernier

Larmandier-Bernier is one of the winemaking families that focus their attention solely on the character of the origin and the aging of the wines. Their recipe for success? Healthy, living soils, old, resistant grape varieties, strong native yeasts, hand-picked ripe grapes, oak and barrique barrels. Since 1999, the winemaking family has already been working biodynamically. Their champagnes are all expressions of a specific terroir, usually also of a grape variety, often from one harvest.

Since the 19th century and in the eighth generation, the Larmandier family cultivates vines in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus plots in the Côte des Blancs. Chalk is the basis of this great terroir and the beautiful minerality of Larmandier-Bernier champagnes.

Their philosophy:

Biodynamic winegrowing to protect the grapes and the terroir.
Long aging in barriques and barrels for 11 months, natural yeasts.
Pure wines: no filtration or fining, little or no dosage.

Cultivation area Larmandier-Bernier

Larmandier-Bernier now cultivates 17 plots in different villages of the Côte de Blancs. The Grands Crus sites in Cramant, Avize, Oger and the Premier Cru site in Vertus stand out. As is common in the Côte de Blancs, Sophie, Pierre and Arthur grow almost exclusively (90%) Chardonnay. Their vines are on average 35 years old, the oldest of which are 90 years old.

Sophie and Pierre Larmandier are among the earliest protagonists of organic and biodynamic houses in Champagne. Since 1992 they have already renounced herbicides, and since 1999 the entire estate has been farmed biodynamically.
